About NAHA
The Nippon Asia Halal Association (NAHA) is a nonprofit halal certification body based in Chiba, Japan, established in 2013. Founded by Dr. Saeed Akhtar, who serves as its chief auditor, and chaired by Dr. Jamaldeen Mohammad Rifas Alias Anas, the association pairs Islamic scholars acting as sharia advisers with technically trained auditors, including staff who completed training programs run by HDC in Malaysia and MUIS in Singapore.
NAHA issues halal certificates for food products, restaurants, accommodation facilities, and cosmetics, with slaughtering and processing covered in its scheme documents. Alongside certification it provides consulting for companies preparing to apply, plus lectures, seminars, and education activities aimed in particular at small and medium Japanese manufacturers. Certification proceeds from an initial consultation and application through document preparation and an on-site audit to certificate issuance with approval to use the halal logo. The association also operates a separate Muslim friendly category for hotels, restaurants, medical facilities, educational institutions, and tourism facilities that meet part of the halal requirements.
Its certificates link Japanese producers to markets beyond Japan. The association updated its mutual recognition arrangement with JAKIM in March 2023 and signed a mutual recognition agreement with BPJPH of Indonesia in February 2025, applying an additional scope under that agreement in September 2025.
