About JHF
The Japan Halal Foundation (JHF) is a general incorporated association established in September 2015 and headquartered in Taito Ward, Tokyo. It was formed in collaboration with the Assalam Foundation and the Assalam Masjid in Okachimachi, Tokyo, and is led by Representative Director Mohammed Nazeer. JHF certifies food and beverage products, restaurants, accommodation facilities, and cosmetics, applying its requirements along the full supply chain from raw material production through transportation, storage, and distribution.
Religious oversight rests with a sharia advisory committee of Islamic scholars drawn from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and other regions. Beyond certification, the foundation provides consultation, halal training, lectures, and seminars, supports Japanese producers exporting halal products, and publishes updates through its Halal News Japan channel. Its work serves both export manufacturers and hospitality operators preparing for Muslim visitors to Japan.
JHF describes itself as a certification body with mutual recognition arrangements covering major Southeast Asian authorities. Its website records approval by CICOT of Thailand in 2024. The foundation is also an associate member of the World Halal Council. Its website is published in Japanese and English, and certified restaurants and products are featured alongside training sessions for businesses working toward halal compliance.
