About THIDA

The Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association (THIDA) is Taiwan’s principal halal certification body, based in Taipei. It was formed to integrate the halal certification services previously run by Taiwan’s mosque based certifiers into a single national body. In January 2012 THIDA reached a cooperation agreement with the Chinese Muslim Association that divided responsibilities: THIDA handles halal certification for exported and manufactured products nationwide, including processed foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and cosmetics, while the Chinese Muslim Association covers domestic catering, tourism, and meat products.

THIDA’s certification confirms compliance with Islamic law across ingredients, manufacturing processes, hygiene, safety, packaging, labeling, and transportation. The association emphasizes that issuing a certificate is not the end of its work, maintaining post certification audits and supervision of certified clients. To protect impartiality, it does not accept external donations. Its own introduction states that nearly 400 enterprises have obtained its halal certificates, with products exported to Muslim markets.

Internationally, THIDA holds recognition from JAKIM of Malaysia, effective since 1 January 2013 and currently valid until 19 March 2027, covering food, cosmetics, chemical products, and pharmaceutical products. It also holds recognition from BPJPH of Indonesia, valid until 14 November 2027, and lists MUIS of Singapore among its recognizing authorities. THIDA presents itself as the only certification body in Taiwan holding the BPJPH recognition; on the JAKIM side, a second Taiwanese body, Taiwan Halal Certification Development, received JAKIM authorization in July 2025. It is a member of the World Halal Food Council and the International Halal Integrity Alliance, and maintains mutual recognition arrangements with certification bodies across Asia and beyond, including partners in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, India, and Argentina.

What does JAKIM recognition mean for THIDA?
