About SICHMA

The Supreme Islamic Council of Halal Meat in Australia Inc (SICHMA) is a non-profit Islamic organisation headquartered in South Granville, New South Wales, with a presence in Queensland. Operating since 1992, it has grown into one of the principal providers of halal certification to Australian companies processing and exporting meat and processed foods, serving both the domestic market and export destinations across the Muslim world.

While red meat remains its core activity, SICHMA states that its certification programs cover all food and consumable product categories. Its published schemes include general halal certification, a scheme for the processing of ambient stable products, and a scheme for the production of biochemicals. Under Australia’s export control system, SICHMA holds an approved arrangement with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, making it an Approved Islamic Organisation authorised to certify halal red meat and red meat products for export.

The certification process moves from application through audit to committee review. SICHMA conducts standard, surveillance, short notice, and unannounced audits, documents findings and non-conformities, and can draw on laboratory testing as part of evidence collection. A Certificate of Conformity is awarded once the Certification Committee has reviewed the audit results and confirmed that non-conformances have been addressed.

SICHMA is a founding and sustaining member of the Australian Halal Certifiers Alliance and the World Halal Food Council. Beyond certification, the organisation channels funds into community work, including support for mosques, youth education and mentoring programs, and Islamic conferences and seminars.

What does JAKIM recognition mean for SICHMA?

JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) is widely regarded as the industry's most influential halal authority. Its recognition means halal certificates issued by SICHMA are accepted for products entering Malaysia, and it serves as a strong third-party credibility signal in the global halal trade.

Where is SICHMA based?

Supreme Islamic Council of Meat in Australia (SICHMA) is based in Australia at Unit 13/10 Straits Avenue South Granville New South Wales 2142 Australia.

Is SICHMA recognised outside Malaysia?

Yes. Besides JAKIM, Supreme Islamic Council of Meat in Australia (SICHMA) appears on MUIS Singapore's Recognised Foreign Halal Certification Bodies list (valid to 2028-12-17), so its halal certificates are also accepted for the Singapore market. Recognition by two national authorities is a strong dual-market credibility signal for exporters.

What role does the Australian government play in SICHMA's meat certification?

SICHMA holds an approved arrangement with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, which makes it an Approved Islamic Organisation permitted to certify halal red meat and red meat products for export under Australia's official system.
