About IMANOR
Institut Marocain de Normalisation (IMANOR) is Morocco’s national standards institute, a public body created by Law No. 12-06 on standardization, certification and accreditation, promulgated in February 2010. Operating under the supervision of the ministry responsible for industry, it succeeded the earlier SNIMA standards service and represents Morocco in ISO and in SMIIC, the standards organization of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Unlike most bodies in this directory, IMANOR is a state institution rather than a private certifier, and it is the sole authority behind the Halal Maroc label.
The Halal Maroc label is a distinctive mark owned by IMANOR that attests conformity to Moroccan standard NM 08.0.800:2012 on halal food, developed with the Superior Council of Ulema, Morocco’s highest religious authority. A companion standard, NM 08.0.802, extends halal requirements to cosmetic and personal hygiene products. Certification covers the whole food chain, from slaughter and reception of raw materials through processing to distribution.
Audits are conducted by a team combining an IMANOR auditor qualified in food safety and an Islamic affairs expert recognized by the Superior Council of Ulema, with laboratory testing where needed. Labelled companies face surveillance visits in the first two years and renewal after three. For Malaysian market access, IMANOR’s status means Moroccan exporters deal with a national authority whose halal mark carries state backing at home.
