About Halal Damu LLP
Halal Damu LLP is the halal standardization and certification centre operating under the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, the country’s muftiate. It was established on 8 October 2014 to support the development of the halal industry and to supply the domestic market with products that comply with Shariah requirements. The body is based in Astana and works in Kazakh and Russian, with a network of specialists it describes as a team of more than 50 professionals.
Certification is issued under the QMDB Halal mark, which was registered as a protected logo in December 2020. Halal Damu has developed six in-house halal standards drawing on international practice, and its scheme covers meat products, dairy, confectionery, bakery goods, beverages, fish products, cosmetics, disinfectants, restaurants, fast food outlets, and processing facilities. The body itself states that its coverage extends to more than 40 product and service categories. The process moves from application and document collection through an audit with laboratory testing to certificate issuance, typically within 10 to 20 working days, and certificates are valid for one year.
According to the muftiate’s 2025 annual report, 450 enterprises received QMDB Halal certification for the first time that year, bringing the total number of certified halal producers in Kazakhstan and abroad to 2,234. Beyond certification, Halal Damu organises Halal Expo exhibitions in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and Taraz, and consumer information is available through the Halal Guide KZ mobile application. The body appears on the register of international halal certification bodies maintained by JAKIM in Malaysia.
