About AHIK
ALE “Association Halal Industry of Kazakhstan” (AHIK) is a halal certification body based in Astana, Kazakhstan, registered as an association of legal entities and chaired by Marat Sarsenbayev. The association was set up in 2005 in response to growing demand for halal food in the country, and it presents itself as a founder of the halal industry in Kazakhstan and the surrounding region. With more than 15 years of certification experience, AHIK operates as an independent centre specialising in halal certification across the Commonwealth of Independent States.
AHIK adopted the Malaysian model of halal assurance early in its history, obtaining approval from SIRIM to implement eleven of that agency’s standards, including MS 1500:2009 for halal food. Its certification scope covers food products, slaughtering, and pharmaceuticals. The process begins with an online application, after which a team of specialists carries out a detailed audit of the production line, and clients receive continuing expert support after certification. The body issues several certificate types, including slaughterer, staff, batch, and international certificates.
According to its own figures, around 700 domestic producers and more than 50 international companies hold AHIK certificates, and about 70 percent of its certified clients are export oriented. AHIK is a member of the International Halal Integrity Alliance and appears on the register of international halal certification bodies maintained by JAKIM in Malaysia.
