About KHA
Korea Halal Authority Corporation (KHA) is a private halal certification body headquartered in Osong, Cheongju, in South Korea’s North Chungcheong Province. The organization traces its origins to a halal certification team formed under the C&C Industrial Management Institute in January 2014 and adopted the Korea Halal Authority name in 2015, the year its chief executive embraced Islam. It is led by managing director Jin Jae Nam, known by his Muslim name Mustafa, who has publicly encouraged Korean manufacturers to certify through domestic bodies rather than assuming they must certify abroad.
KHA presents itself as a one stop domestic route for Korean companies, combining training, auditing, and certification in house to reduce the cost and lead time associated with seeking certification overseas. Its work covers food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, restaurants, accommodation, tourism, and distribution services. The assessment sequence runs from application and document review through sample analysis and factory inspection to certificate issuance, followed by monitoring after six months and annually thereafter. Certificates are valid for one year and renewed annually, and requirements extend from incoming raw materials through manufacturing, storage, and transportation, including segregation from non halal production lines.
In November 2023, KHA signed a mutual recognition agreement with Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) in Jakarta, enabling Korean exporters holding KHA certification to enter the Indonesian market without additional local certification. KHA has also been an associate member of the World Halal Council since October 2024.
