Estandar Global de Certificacion Halal, S.L., long known as the Instituto Halal, is a Spanish halal certification body headquartered in Cordoba. Its roots lie in Junta Islamica de Espana, the religious organization founded in 1989 under the leadership of Mansur Escudero that co-signed Law 26/1992, the cooperation agreement between the Spanish State and the Islamic Commission of Spain. Junta Islamica created the Instituto Halal as a certification entity to guarantee the right of Muslims to food produced in accordance with their religious precepts, and the body manages the Marca de Garantia Halal de Junta Islamica, the halal guarantee mark applied to foods, products, and services in Spain, across the European Union, and for export to Muslim majority markets. Beyond Spain, it has maintained offices in Mexico since 2016 and in Portugal.

The body offers the food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries a certification model that combines technical and religious assessment, and its work extends to slaughterhouses, restaurants, tourism services, halal training, and regulatory advisory. Certificates are valid for three years, with annual follow up audits required of certified companies.

Its international standing rests on a network of accreditations and recognitions. The Turkish Halal Accreditation Agency HAK accredited the body in March 2024 against the OIC/SMIIC 2:2019 standard for halal product certification. It also holds accreditations from BPJPH in Indonesia, SFDA/SAAC in Saudi Arabia, EIAC in the United Arab Emirates, and IMANOR in Morocco, alongside recognition from JAKIM in Malaysia and MUIS in Singapore, the latter renewed in February 2026. The organization maintains cooperation with international Islamic institutions including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Muslim World League.
